Renovated Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center celebrates project milestone in Los Angeles
Today on the 21-acre Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center campus southeast of Downtown Los Angeles, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place in celebration of the Jacqueline Perry Institute expansion. This is an important milestone in modernizing the hospital, which specializes in brain, neurology, orthopedic, pediatric, spine injury, and stroke rehabilitation. Today marks the second major grand opening for the revitalized campus, the first of which was the Don Knabe Wellness & Aquatic Therapy Center.
In addition to the completed outpatient expansion and wellness center, SmithGroup’s design replaced aging buildings and hardscape to create a 1.56-acre “recovery zone” featuring dual-purpose outdoor spaces, healing gardens, terraces, large plazas, and amphitheaters. Drawing inspiration from the hospital’s rich history and SmithGroup’s holistic wellness approach, a central plaza defines the heart of this campus. An iconic tower reinforces the center’s intuitive wayfinding patterns while emphasizing the campus’ central core.
The new facilities will be in use starting in November 2018 and will continue to support Rancho Los Amigos' reputation as a highly-esteemed partner in the application of world-class neuroscience.
