Brandon comes from a family of architects, engineers and construction managers, “so I have a good understanding of other building components to ask the right questions about how we can make improvements through integrated design,” he explains. “Identifying how all the different building systems can work together is like discovering the solution to a puzzle.” Brandon offers up an unexpected choice for a personal favorite structure: a timber observation tower in Door County, Wisconsin, a Great Lakes vacation destination he has visited since he was a child. When the aging tower was rebuilt to address structural deficiencies and make it ADA accessible, Brandon grew to admire “the intricate timber structure that winds through the trees,” he says. “It’s a demonstration that even an icon can be reimagined and reborn to provide a better future.”
