Charlie Langolf

Charlie's goal is to change the perception of land surveying, from delivering a “one-time product” to playing an engaged role in the development process. “SmithGroup is challenging conventional thinking about how a survey group can support and inform design,” he says. “I feel a purpose in our work, knowing that many of our projects are noticeable improvements for our communities. Working at SmithGroup allows me to focus on projects with soul.” Like most surveyors Charlie’s career in surveying was born out of a love for the outdoors and history.  He finds purpose and joy in guiding both clients and colleagues alike through matters of title and the critical development step of documenting detailed site conditions. An unapologetic nerd for his profession, no family vacation is complete without Charlie hunting down survey monuments for photo ops or finding a surveyor in the wild to chat up.  On a trip to Italy he even excitedly engaged with a local surveyor only through hand gestures and knowledge of the equipment that the surveyor was using.
