Dayton Schroeter

Dayton Schroeter, Washington DC, Vice President, Design Director, Architecture, Commercial Office Buildings, Cultural, Public & Civic, Museums & Galleries, Workplace

As Vice President and Design Director for the firm, Dayton leads with radical curiosity, bringing 20 years of experience championing ‘Design Justice’ advocacy across a wide range of typologies including museums, mixed use developments, office, residential and higher education projects. One of his most notable projects is the Richmond National Slavery Museum at the Lumpkin’s Slave Jail Site. "It is undoubtedly one of the most humbling and important projects I’ve worked on in my career," Dayton remarks. "A project with this much emotion and historical complexity really highlights the importance of active listening, truth-telling, and storytelling in shaping spatial experiences that empower communities.” He also serves as a leader for the firm’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, spearheading a design culture that works to confront and rectify the systemic injustices architecture and planning have perpetuated against historically disenfranchised communities of color. Driven by an insatiable desire to explore and expand his understanding of the world, Dayton continually seeks out new perspectives and experiences. After completing a major project, he often embarks on journeys to unfamiliar places, immersing himself in environments that challenge his thinking and fuel his creativity.
