Mette Shenker

Mette originally set out pursue a career as a movie director in her native Denmark. Now she draws from filmmakers and other creative forces for fresh perspectives that enrich her work in interior architecture. Mette takes in her surroundings like cinematic art, too. “A walk from the train station, a song, a dish of beautiful food...these small encounters create a rich tapestry of stories,” she suggests, that can help her tune in to the essence of a client challenge. She also looks to the past. “Across cultures, humanity has an inherent ability to sense when a space feels ‘right’—a wisdom passed down through generations,” Mette muses. Marcel Proust delivers wisdom to Mette in her favorite book, In Search of Lost Time. “It is slow and winding and a grueling 3,700 pages long,” she reports. “But it changed my life with its premise: sometimes, taking the long road will reveal beauty and story in everyday life.”
