Ask Dallas Arts District patrons about Sammons Park, and they'll call it a must-visit, the heart of the city's new performing arts center. But they may not know its inviting lawns and gathering areas are an intensive green roof set atop underground parking.
With many stakeholders and a global team of consultants, the design team's process was essential to forging consensus. A strikingly simple, flexible combination of lawns and planted gardens resulted, linked by paved pathways. A mix of perennials, bulbs and grasses offer bursts of color year 'round. The signature feature is a memorable reflecting pool by the opera house.
For performance events as well as picnics and formal gatherings, Sammons Park is a compelling public venue. It not only completes the vision for the Arts District, it adds depth to the downtown Dallas experience.
