As a fire protection/life safety engineer, Kyle takes on some hefty responsibilities, spelled out right there in his title. He also contemplates how his role plays into the bigger picture. “Great designs don’t become great architecture unless they are actually built,” he points out. “By working with the design teams early on, I help make sure their designs incorporate all the elements necessary to provide a safe building that the fire marshal or code reviewer can feel good about approving. Good fire protection supports good architecture.” Kyle enjoys designing and building furniture in his free time, and proudly displays in his living room a hand plane once used regularly by his grandfather. “He made chandeliers in his New York lighting fixture shop,” explains Kyle. “I like to think that he would appreciate the continuation of hand-crafting in the family.”
