SmithGroup Boosts Mixed-Use Residential Design Expertise
SmithGroup, one of the nation's largest integrated design firms, is pleased to announce that John Sheehy, Sherry Caplan and Bill Higgins have joined its San Francisco office as principals. As the founding principals of Architecture International, this trio brings a wealth of multi-family residential and mixed-use master planning and design experience to SmithGroup. Originally from The Architects Collaborative of Boston and San Francisco, they have designed significant mixed-use, resort and residential projects across the U.S. and internationally. Closer to home, they have creatively transformed key neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area with landmark residential projects including Mosso Apartments, SOMA Grand, The Essex on Lake Merritt and The Grand.
The team is currently completing master planning and conceptual design for Merida Seascapes, a residential luxury resort on nearly 16 acres in Cebu, Philippines. Sixty percent of the site will remain open space and all residential, commercial and hospitality amenities are being designed with the health and wellness of both residents and staff in mind.
“We are excited to have John, Sherry, Bill and the entire AI team here at SmithGroup. Their experience strengthens our Residential and Mixed Use portfolios and brings valuable expertise to our clients,” said Joyce Polhamus, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, director of SmithGroup’s San Francisco office. “Their wealth of knowledge and local and international design experience helps intensify our focus on design excellence, increases our connection to the developer community and enhances our ability to deliver beautiful, cost-efficient, sustainable design solutions.”
